As part of our research group, Juliette participated in the RNBM Annual Congress (National Encounter of Musical Librarians) in Lyon this year. Along with Raphaelle Bats and Gustavo Insaurralde, she was part of the dissemination workshops with musical librarians and the presentation of a poster showing the Explore benefits to them. In this occasion, she was invited to speak about her experience in the promotion of the cultural musical heritage of the library.

The promotion agenda of the BML is structured in three spaces: physical collections, online accessibility to the latter and social partnerships. In the first domain, the BML uses a wide range of instrument to turn their resources more dynamic. Placed is one of the tools employed, along with the crate digging process with local radio stations and the used of “Love at first sight” labels on CDs and vinyls. As online resources are concerned, Influx (BML webzine), and Numelyo (BML digital library), the Musical Collection Facebook Site (called “Lyon scène locale”) and the some search algorithm play their same role. The BML is a well-known and recognized stakeholder in the local scene. It plays a big part in the musical event production, being their popular event sponsorship, the promotion of small independent labels and the library showcases their flagship projects. This is the most ambition endeavor of the department.

Juliette clearly stated Placed position in her department. This tool, between others, flourishes the collection because it facilitates the visibility of non-popular resources, highlighting the multisupport features attached to it. Borrowing process of resources are changing and these tools are tackling these habits change. Furthemore, Placed is inscribed as a change making tool since it encourages different transactions such as innovative cultural actions, the “rematerialisation” of users production, the collection editing process, among other possibilities.

According to Juliette lecture, Placed encourage the agglomeration and promotion of her deparment resources.  That’s why communication actions are at stake, being the centre of a huge musical production ecosystem.  At the end, its all about that base.
